I believe in Fairies

a review by Mandy Nolan

Who can't remember that magical time when fairies lived in the bottom of your garden? Nature spirits who tended flowers, collected dewdrops and mended broken dreams, the Fairy was a glittering manifestation of the guardian angel, playful, fun and otherworldly. Fairies awaken the joyful child in all of us, from 2 to 102, goading mischief, invoking dance and reminding us of our connection to the metaphysical. In a burst of glitter and glee, Ava Belle appears. She is the Funky Fairy, a contemporary winged cutie with ringlets, a tutu and a guitar. I have two daughters, and over the years I have encountered a wide range of Fairy people, all of whom my discerning damsels have discovered to be Frauds! As the funky fairy, Ava is the real deal: petite and beautiful, cheeky and charming and most importantly, gifted in the way fairies are meant to be gifted. You see, Fairy folklore would have us believe that each Fairy has her own very wonderful talent, and this is what she must bring to the Fairy Circle at their Annual General Meetings (aka, the Mushroom Circle). Ava has just released a magical CD as the Funky Fairy, entitled 'We Can Fly'. This talented young singer songwriter has created an album of beautiful original songs that will be loved by adults and children alike. Gorgeous melodies and soaring vocals, she has a sweet effortless voice, rich with promise that offers kids 'real' music with integrity, great production values and originality, rather than cheap peppy songs that sound more like ad jingles than music. 'We Can Fly' is delightful listening which even offers the most compassionate gift an artist could give to a parent, a Lullaby! Awaken the gentle magic with your children, and something just might re-emerge in you. There's a little place on every person where wings once grew. Take a breath, believe and together, 'We Can Fly'.
